Solid Ground

The world feels like a tornado that is getting wider and picking up steam at every turn. I thought the fierce winds would’ve dissipated by now…but they seem to only be getting stronger—globally and personally.

The level of warring is intense. The devastating invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The loss of lives, separation of families, destruction of property, history, freedom and liberty. It’s heart-wrenching to see the images and hear the stories.

Closer to home, there’s the war on masks, vaccines, racial equity, voter’s rights, trans rights, gay rights, women’s rights and so on.

Any one of those would be enough to face day-in and day-out—and yet they are the backdrop for a more intimate level of upheaval. I don’t know of a person right now who isn’t experiencing a form of personal chaos, loss, or dramatic life change.

After recovering from a tough bout with covid, my husband is unexpectedly moving his dad into a nursing home and packing up his dad’s house. One of my clients just lost her father. Another her grandmother. Another is going through a contentious divorce. While another is assessing the best cancer treatment for her mom.

Life feels more unstable and unpredictable than ever. When the ground keeps shifting beneath our feet, what can we count on?

SOLID GROUND

One of the best ways to support yourself during these whirlwind times is to answer the question:

What is my solid ground?
(What can I rely on? What can I depend on? What is holding me up?)

I’ve been doing this inquiry daily for the last month and it has helped me feel less alone…less helpless. It’s calmed my nervous system, centered me in my loving, and rooted me in my truth.

My solid ground includes: The morning sunrise over the mountains. My daily devotional/peace/gratitude practice. The bedroom chair where I honor this practice—including a deliciously hot cup of coffee! The wagging tails and snuggles of dogs (my own and the pups I walk volunteering). My intuition. My husband. Jill. Melanie. Lisa Bay. My mom. My coach. The incredible support team in our home…and more.

What can you rely on right now?

You may be surprised—not only by your answers, but also by how your answers bring you a sense of peace and allow you to respond versus react to all that’s unfolding around you.

If you’d like to share some of your solid ground with me, please do.

With Fierce Loving,
Amber
