Ok, bear with me. Today’s post is gonna seem like it has nothing to do with the title – oh, but I promise, it will by the end!
Let me start by asking a question, “Are you holding onto clothes in your closet that don’t fit? You know, your “When I Just Lose those Last 10 Pounds” jeans?”
Maybe those jeans fit you perfectly 5 years ago and you just can’t seem to part with them because you hope you’ll fit back into them one day.
Trust me. I know all about this. I actually had an entire set of clothes for when I was thinner and another set for when I was heavier. Mostly because I yo-yo’d so much in my past.
Thankfully that’s not the case anymore. Which is why I’m sharing this with you today.
I invite you to meet your body where she is today.
All any of us really want is to be accepted. If you’ve ever experienced what it’s like to be fully accepted by someone else – or, more importantly, yourself! – then you know what I’m talking about.
Acceptance is the key ingredient to creating last change. It is a foundational tool for success in any relationship. Including the one with your body.
So, keeping those old clothes around in hopes that your body will change so you can wear them again…well, that’s like having a boyfriend who keeps his ex around in case your relationship doesn’t work out!
And, let me tell you, nobody wants that!
So today I offer one simple, yet powerful action that will help you embrace where you are right now.
Clear Out Your Closet
I want you to go through your entire wardrobe and pull out anything you haven’t worn in a year. I want you to pull out those jeans you just know you’ll be able to fit back into when you lose 5 more pounds. I want you take out that dress you’ve never worn that still has the tag on it.
I want you to meet your body where she is today.
Clearing out your closet is a powerful process. This simple act:
- reinforces the belief that your body is enough now
- reminds your psyche that you deserve more
- gives you a fresh start
- provides you a wonderful opportunity to examine your wardrobe and see what it says about you. Remember, your wardrobe can be a great way to share your creative expression.
Clearing out your closet also:
- creates space for new. And space is very inviting.
Not only does it create space for new, more ‘you’ wardrobe items, but it also creates space inside your mind. By getting rid of some of your old out-dated beliefs that just aren’t serving you anymore, so that you can be the new fully realized, beautiful YOU!
The clothes you are ready to set free you can either deliver to a consignment shop or charitable organization, such as goodwill . . . or you can invite your friends to clear out their closets too and have a clothing exchange party!
Such a fantastic way to celebrate the woman you are now!
