From Bucket List to Reality

Early last year my husband and I were at dinner with dear friends where they opened up a conversation about their bucket list and their desire to live those adventures now. No more waiting. We all agreed the pandemic highlighted the preciousness of time and the importance of living our lives to the fullest while we're able.

This invitation to share one another's dreams was so fun and alive! (I highly recommend doing this with your nearest and dearest. The joy and connection from sharing alone is worth it!)

On our friends' bucket list was The Vienna Opera Ball—the original Ball of Balls. Without going into detail, this adventure is becoming a reality next month for all of us! (Gown photos below.)

As wonderful and exciting as this is, it hasn't come without it's challenges.

Waltz lessons…

I've been wanting to take partner dance lessons for years. As a former Broadway dancer you would think that would be easy. Turns out it's quite humbling. Partner dance is very different.

During the lessons, I'm inundated with thoughts like: I should know this by now. The instructor is picking on me. Vince is off the beat again. We look foolish.

My mind can ruin anything—if I let it. And that's the opportunity. To not let it. That's where growth resides.

I'm practicing a new way of relating to my fixed mindset that includes nurturing patience. I'm lowering my standard for my dance and allowing myself to be a beginner. When I do this, all I experience is joy!

Learning something new is a courageous act. Our ego doesn't like to be bad at anything. And yet, that's where we all start…not good at something until we get good at it.

How we learn to walk is by failing. Upon falling enough times, we find our stride.

Ira Glass has a fantastic video on the gap between taste and talent. If you're in the process of creating anything—of bringing something new to life—watch the below 2-minute video. You'll be glad you did.

Being in this community means you're someone who goes after your dreams. Maybe not all of the time, but much of it. Know, this sets you apart from most people on the planet. It's way easier to live with the fantasy inside and much harder to bring it into reality.

What's on your bucket list?

Reply and tell me at least one.

That's an easy first step in giving it life! Who knows…maybe this year will be the year you bring it to fruition.

Celebrating your courage to expand and live your fullness.

With loving,
Amber

ps: Finding the dress has been a super fun part of the process! Which do you like better? Champagne or black?
