Happiness is a Direction, Not a Destination.
Happiness.
We long for it. Are afraid of it. Spend our lives in pursuit of it. Try to find it in places it doesn't exist…and so much more.
What exactly is it? What is it not? And, how do we experience more of it?
This week I listened to a fantastic podcast on the topic. I rarely share audios created by others here, and loved it so much that I couldn't help but feature it in today's newsletter.
It turns out happiness isn't a destination. It's not a place that we arrive to. According to Arthur C. Brooks, social scientist, in-demand public speaker, and professor at both the Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School, happiness is really a direction.
In this noteworthy interview from Rich Roll, Arthur talks about:
what happiness is and how to have more of it
the fastest way to get lasting and stable satisfaction
the importance of struggle on the path to happiness
how perfectionism blocks our experience of joy
the four pillars of happiness
the role of purpose as a key ingredient
and so much more!
You can listen to Rich Roll's interview with Arthur C. Brooks here.
It's over two hours, so you might want to spread it out over a couple of days. The conversation is well worth your time.
And, if you want to dive deeper into this topic, check out Arthur C. Brooks' newest book which he co-wrote with Oprah Winfrey titled, Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier.
Here's to your happier-ness!
With loving,
