Two Important Questions to Ask Now
We need each other now more than ever. We are going through something significant individually and as a collective.
ASK
Now is the time to ask for help. Do you need something? Toilet paper? Water? Financial assistance? Ideas for what to do with your kids who are now home ALL THE TIME? A shoulder to cry on or someone to express your fears to?
This is the time to speak up. Don’t suffer in silence. Don’t buy into the story that you’re a burden and other people have it far worse. That may be true, and that doesn’t diminish what you are going through. You matter and what’s going on inside of you is important.
You have people in your life who love you. People who see you and want to be there for you. Let them. Receive their loving wholeheartedly.
GIVE
Now is also a time to give. I’m not suggesting you give to detriment or depletion. Of course it’s important to take care of yourself. It’s also important to take care of each other.
The truth is we all have something to give. Maybe that’s a roll of toilet paper or a carton of eggs. Maybe that’s paying someone’s grocery bill or electric bill.
And, giving doesn’t have to be monetary. Let’s remember that you have knowledge, gifts and creativity to share.
Do you love music? Put together a quarantine playlist and share it.
Are you excellent with art projects for kids? Please, for the love, share a video tutorial for all parents to see and implement into their households.
Do you know how to listen with your heart? Extend that offer to someone you love.
Are communication skills your jam? Offer ideas for how to help leaders speak to and comfort/inspire their teams. Or, how spouses can set up their day working alongside each other without destroying their relationship.
Ideas and entertainment are just as valuable as money.
Giving might also include giving to yourself—quiet time and space to take just for you. (I see you moms/dads/execs out there.)
Slow down each day and consider these two questions:
What do I need?
What can I give?
Then take action on the answers you receive.
Feel free to share your needs and ideas on what you can give in the comments below.
With Fierce Loving,
Amber
