2025’s Message is Clear
Caption: Smoke from Eaton Fire from January 8, 2025.
I'm writing to you from my home, feeling grateful that the power has remained stable since being restored, the winds are calm (for now), and the fire closest to me is nearly contained.
As my nervous system settles, I've been reflecting on all that's unfolded so far this year. 2025 isn't holding back. It feels like Life is speaking to us through every intense moment—from wars to climate disasters.
What is its message?
In part, an invitation to let go.
Here in Los Angeles, the fires are taking more than homes and belongings. They're dismantling entire communities and familiar ways of life. It's heartbreaking to witness so much loss. The grief is palpable, softened only by the presence of helpers—so many helpers. Strangers are coming together, offering support, putting themselves at risk for one another.
It's overwhelming and emotional. Some moments, I cry tears of sadness; others, tears of gratitude.
At our core, humans are extraordinary. We are love.
The fires are revealing this truth by burning away illusions—illusions about who we think we are and the stories that divide us. In moments of crisis, the usual filters of separation—politics, identity, labels—fall away. What matters is simple:
Are you safe?
What do you need?
How can I help?
This is the essence of letting go.
Through this experience, I've become more aware of coping mechanisms and conditioning that I'm shedding, including the misunderstanding that:
Strength means “holding it together,” and that vulnerability is dangerous.
I need to be on guard and control everything and everyone. (As if that's even possible! But a part of me has fought valiantly for it for a long time.)
Uncertainty is unsafe.
I need to protect myself from hurt because I can't handle the pain.
Spiritual enlightenment is the goal.
There's something wrong with me or my experience.
Letting go of these beliefs is a form of letting go of the past and the future.
When we do this, we free ourselves from the bondage of outdated narratives, false identifications, and conditioning. We open our hearts to the mystery of now, sink into that safe space within, and touch into our true power—love.
This is on offer to us all.
Separation is what the ego innocently breeds. And separation is what pits us against each other and is destroying our world.
When we let our hearts embrace our egos and meet our hurt, shame, sadness, loneliness, disappointment, boredom, distraction, and resentment with love, we reconnect to our wholeness and discover how beautiful, safe, and enough we already are.
This is the practice of meeting whatever is present.
This is the healing available within.
This is the love that moves mountains.
It's within you...in every moment...always.
